Born in Tuscany to a family of cobblers, Alain Quilici has been designing his namesake shoe collection for two years. He creates with form and function then adds the third element of the unexpected. No longer mere accessories, shoes are transformed into organic extensions of the human form. The silhouette of an ice skate spawns a fetishistic bootie; a wedge, torn apart, inspires a stiletto heel; a sturdy heel hides a slim metallic blade. To Further spotlight the sharp angles and sculptural nature of his work, colors are generally limited to a strict palette of graphic black and white, grey and flesh-like neutrals.
